The most prestigious sporting event in Southeast Asia, the 2021 SEA Games, Hanoi will begin in May 2022. Esports will compete in 10 numbers, namely Mobile Legends, PUBG Mobile – Team, PUBG Mobile – Solo, Free Fire, Arena of Valor, League of Legends Wild Rift – Men, League of Legends Wild Rift – Women, FIFA Online 4, League of Legends (PC) and Cross Fire.

The Executive Board of Esports Indonesia (PBESI) as the organization that accommodates all esports activities in Indonesia formed the National Esports Team Body headed by RM Ibnu Sulistyo Pradipto. To achieve the best achievement in the 2021 SEA games, PBESI also held a National Training Center (Pelatnas) for the Indonesian Esports Team under the direction of the Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI). The National Esports Pelatnas Phase 1 will be held on March 1 – 10, 2022, at Jeep Station Indonesia, Megamendung, Bogor – West Java.

Diaz Hendropriyono as the Board of Trustees of PBESI in his remarks at the opening of 20 Esports said, “We are all proud of the presence of our friends (athletes) here. We all depend and hope that you can bring as much gold as possible in the SEA Games Hanoi later. Being a national athlete has its own pride. What is proud is not only family or friends, but the entire Indonesian nation, if you can become a national athlete. So keep practicing and keep on practicing, so when the country is coming your friends have to be ready, because it is pride and irreplaceable.”

The National Training Program is divided into two stages. The first stage will take place from March 1-10, 2022, where it will be a training and selection event for all athletes before being elected to the National Team. The second stage of the National Training will be held from March 17 to April 30, 2022 and will focus on training the athletes who are declared selected to be sent to the 2021 SEA Games in Hanoi, Vietnam.

During the quarantine period of Pelatnas, all athletes will take part in personal development and training programs (Physical, Psychological, Mental, Nutrition, Strategy and Analysis), Competing Training (Internal and External), Athlete Evaluation and Intensive Development Team (Domestic/Overseas) .

Head of the Indonesian National Team Agency, RM Ibnu Riza Pradipto, "The 2021 SEA Games Hanoi, will be a golden opportunity to make Indonesia's name fragrant in the international arena, and I am sure that the selected athletes will be gold winners at the SEA Games event in the future. However, over the next 10 days we will reduce the number of athletes to be part of the Indonesian esports national team that will be dispatched to Vietnam. Let's fight in a healthy, sportsmanship and grow the spirit of chivalry in all athletes so that later they can be selected in the esports national team and win gold at the SEA Games."

Previously, PBESI had formed a Selection Team whose task was to prepare the selection process which took place since December 2021. This process involved four selection routes, namely the PON route, the invitation route, the National Championship (Kejurnas) route, as well as the choice of coaches, and have netted more than 120 athletes and 10 coaches for all events. The selected athletes and coaches will undergo a physical and mental examination first before being put in quarantine for an intensive training program covering technical, physical, psychological, mental abilities, strategy, analysis, and nutrition.

Before departing in May 2022, coaches and athletes will take part in the finalization stage in the form of sparring and final preparation. There will be 66 athletes who will be dispatched for all competition categories, so the total contingent for the 2021 SEA Games will be 76 people including the coach.

Richard Permana, Head Coach of the National Team, “In the next nine days all Pelatnas athletes will be assessed (scoring) by each coach (coach) to represent Indonesia at the SEA Games later. I hope all the athletes participating in the National Training can show their best version for Indonesia.”
